The Last Dollar

Karen, the blind, blond lady who always passes by when I play at the Union Square subway station, told me that she is anxiously waiting a call from the Museum of Natural History, regarding a job. She’s had a two and a half hour long interview at the Whitney Museum, but didn’t get the job there.
Now she’s on her way to a friend who reads to her every Friday. She brings over all her letters and magazines to be read for her.

The lady with the long, black braid – another lady I always see at the Union Square subway station, told me that she had her operation and will have another one on the 12th. She has cancer of the throat. Her niece has the same thing. Her sister died of cancer and her other sister is a cancer survivor, so it runs in her family. She is being very brave. I told her I will pray for her on the 12th.

A guy said to me: I’m giving you my last dollar”.

I got coins from Mexico and from Canada.

Albert, the messenger, was doing his deliveries. He already had 29 deliveries this week, he said.

Dagmar (Meghan and Jim) came at 3pm for their permitted busking spot. They gave me their 2nd CD, which features their photo taken at the Whitehall ferry terminal. They are busking at Boston these days, too, traveling back and forth.

On the train a guy was playing guitar and harmonica and he was singing, too. As he walked the train he noticed me and said “Saw Lady”, nodding ‘hello’.
