A Glimpse Into People’s Souls

I was playing ‘Danny Boy’ at the 14th street subway station when a man approached me with such a look on his face. He told me he is a writer and was just coming back from a meeting with a publisher, who accepted his first book. The book is about Ireland. He walked into the subway after his successful meeting, and was greeted by the sounds of an Irish song! He took that as an omen, a sign from above!

It was beautiful to witness his wonder and excitement and participate in his joy. Playing music in the NYC subway enables me a glimpse into people’s souls. Whether it be serendipity or a higher power which makes me play a particular song when a particular person walks by – for an instant it unites perfect strangers in the dance of life.
