Saying ‘Hello’ in NYC
It was raining when I left to go busking. The train to Manhattan wasn’t working, so I had to take three different trains to get into the city.
A guy told me that his great grandfather got a medal from the Kaizer of Austro-Hungary for playing Klezmer music. Now he is the only musical person in his family. He doesn’t play an instrument but he has the appreciative ears. He told me that Duke Ellington said there are only two kinds of music – good and bad. He also said – if you can’t say hello in NYC, then where can you say hello?!
As I was packing up to go home, the ‘Fellows’ called me from afar. They were done singing on the trains for today, too.
I headed for the trip back home via three trains.
